Playing a raw, primitive style of\u00a0rock and roll, the band sold few records in their original incarnation and gained a reputation for their confrontational performances, which often involved acts of\u00a0self-mutilation\u00a0by frontman Iggy Pop.\u00a0After releasing two albums\u2014<i>The Stooges<\/i>\u00a0(1969) and\u00a0<i>Fun House<\/i>\u00a0(1970)\u2014the group disbanded briefly and reformed with a different lineup to release\u00a0<i>Raw Power<\/i>\u00a0(1973) before breaking up again in 1974. The band reunited in 2003 until dissolving in 2016 following the deaths of Scott Asheton and saxophonist\u00a0Steve Mackay.
